Topaz + Citrine: the birthstones of November, and the perfect gem for all you Scorpios and Sagittarius!
Topaz and Citrine look so similar they often get mistaken for one another. Through much of history, all yellow gemstones were considered topaz, and all topaz was thought to be yellow. Topaz, thought to be derived from the Sanskrit work tapas meaning "fire", actually comes in a rainbow of colors; colorless to yellow, blue, orange, pink, violet, brown, and very rarely red. While citrine, coming from the French word for "lemon", is named so for its charming yellow to deep orange hues.
Both stones are known to have calming energies while bringing fortune and warmth to the wearer. The topaz gemstone symbolizes love and affection, and is said to bestow strength and intelligence on the person who wears it. Citrine is said to be a gift from the sun, and is believed to be a healing gemstone to bring happiness, health, energy, and prosperity. For hundreds of years, citrine has also thought to ground and remove negativity — so this is the perfect gemstone for those seeking good vibes only!
Topaz has a harness of 8 on the Mohs scale, while citrine has a hardness of 7, making them both durable for every day wear.
